The quintessential Queenslander: How the Mermaid Beach Ventura Residences takes in the hinterland, the beaches and the city skyline

A step back from the famous beaches that line the Gold Coast, lies the rolling hills of the hinterland and beyond and one recent residential development showcasing the views, is Niecon’s Ventura Residences.

Adjacent to its fashionable neighbours Broadbeach and Miami lies the Gold Coast’s coastal suburb of Mermaid Beach, called so after the cutter HMS Mermaid.

The relaxed stretch of golden coastline is popular with swimmers and surfers looking to escape the flocks of people, with keen surfers making tracks for the uncrowded break at Heron Avenue, later refuelling at the Surf Life Saving Club, renowned as being possibly the Coast’s very best.

A step back from the famous beaches that line the Gold Coast, lies the rolling hills of the hinterland and beyond and one recent residential development showcasing the views, is Niecon’s Ventura Residences.

While just 250 metres from the Mermaid Beach sand, Ventura benefits from a north, north-west corner positioning, taking in not just the nearby beach, but city skyline and hinterland views as well.

Niecon’s Sales and Marketing Director, James Nikiforides has spent his whole life in the area and says the hinterlands are what makes quintessential Queensland living.

“Everyones focus is on the beach but people rarely focus on the hinterland, when we have one of the most beautiful hinterlands in the world,” he said.

While the crystal clear ocean waters and stretches of golden sand are the first thought for most when thinking of the Goldie, one often overlooked aspect is the hinterland.

National Parks are the specialty here.

From the Gondwana Rainforests of Springbrook National Park – considered one of the wettest places in Southeast Queensland – to the picturesque walking trails that lace through Lamington National Park, which attracts birdwatchers in their droves, there’s something for everyone.

Mount Tamborine, the Gold Coast’s most famous former volcano, also finds its home in the hinterland, just 25-minutes from Mermaid Beach.

It’s in the Gold Coast Hinterland where foodies prosper as well.

Producers are scattered throughout this strip, specialising in everything from fruit to fudge.

Vineyards are also in no short supply, with local creations from regional favourites like Cedar Creek Estate and Canungra Valley Vineyard, or forgo the vino for the unique liqueurs crafted by Mount Tamborine Distillery.

“The sunsets that come with the hinterland, the nice pink clouds on the right day – there’s nothing like it,” he said.

Nikiforides highlighted the point that at night time, directly over the ocean, visibility is limited, reducing the incredible views to the daytime.

“Admittedly during the day, there’s nothing like looking over the ocean, however with hinterland views, at night there’s the view to the skyline, with the twinkle of the houses, along with river views from the canals of Mermaid Waters to the west, so there’s all these other little gems and hidden pieces,” he said.

“What’s really special with Ventura is it takes all of this in.  It has water views, its hinterland views, its city skyline views, it’s got it all,” Nikiforides added.

The remaining Ventura apartments are all situated within the corner of the development.

With three-bedrooms, the open-plan design allows abundant natural light into the homes, while openable windows provide cross ventilation and a further connection to the site’s surroundings.

“There’s a lot of real benefit to the remaining units,” said Nikiforides.

The project’s unique offering of a three-bedroom apartment is a rarity for Mermaid Beach, with each complete with two-bathrooms and one or two car spaces.

Ventura Residences will also house a suite of residential amenities, including the recreational terrace and lounge, suspended waterfall edge pool and sun deck, al fresco dining area, Zen garden and functional gymnasium located on level five.
